Jaia was founded in 1999 by Richard Turner and Greg (Bluey) Powell to produce Tipis and Yurts for the NZ and international markets. Since then, we have supplied structures for many hundreds of projects ranging from simple sleepouts to permanent homes and high end, boutique accommodation.

Our small team of skilled craftsmen is dedicated to providing a NZ-made product handcrafted to an exceptionally high standard and it is immensely rewarding to be providing a product which regularly exceeds expectations and genuinely enriches peoples lives.

"Complicated solutions are often the easiest to find.  The challenge is to find the simple ones".

A signature quality of our products is their minimalist design. We place a high importance on finding the most elegant solutions to problems and go to great lengths to avoid unnecessary complexity, bulk and weight.

Each component must perform it's function perfectly but must also be cost effective to produce and not least of all, it should be beautiful.

Why choose a product from Jaia?

  • We have many repeat customers which we consider a testimony to the quality, beauty and effectiveness of our products.

  • We are constantly improving designs and are always striving to eliminate the next weakest or least durable point.

  • We maintain a sustainable philosophy of growth, maintaining low overheads, a home business ethic and using local materials wherever possible.

  • After sales service and availability of replacement parts is an important part of our business.  Detailed records are kept of each yurt to help in this area.

The Tasman Canvas connection

After many years of occasional collaborations, in 2020 we formed a solid working relationship with Tasman Canvas.

Rowan, Monique and their team bring a wealth of knowledge and experience and now assist with the production of our canvas covers in their Motueka facility.
